When it comes to New Orleans funk, few do it better than Galactic. Last Wednesday at The State Theatre, the veteran five-man group captivated the crowd all night with energetic jams, a dazzling light show, and the help of a trombone-playing prodigy, Corey Henry.

Bear Rhymes with Woman Review
Posted by Charlee Redman on 10/24 at 10:04 AM
Last Thursday night brought unexpected snow showers to State College, but in the midst of the inclement weather, The State Theatre played host to an evening of Americana roots-rock.
Dawn Landes, a quirky young singer from Brooklyn, opened the show with a slew of songs from her various EPs and upcoming album (due to be released in January). Accompanied only by a percussionist, Landes created a distinct mixture of country, pop, rock, and folk with her acoustic guitar and soulful voice. Landes quickly showed the audience that she wasn’t just another girl with an acoustic guitar and a pretty voice – between songs she swapped instruments for an electric guitar (a theme repeated throughout the night) and quite simply, she rocked out.

Fridays with Spider Kelly at the Dark Horse
Posted by Michael Giannelli on 10/23 at 11:57 PM
On Friday nights at the Darkhorse Tavern you will find four guys onstage who promise to “satisfy your vast array of musical wants and needs.” This band is Spider Kelly.
Spider Kelly sound like a couple of old high school buddies who are as comfortable around each other as they are with the bar-going public. One of the best things about the band is that they create an atmosphere that is perfectly conducive to sitting around with friends and having some drinks. They are exactly what a bar band should be.

Third Eye Blind: Review
Posted by Chelsea Sweithelm on 10/18 at 05:42 PM
Third Eye Blind’s sold out concert at the State Theatre Monday night left fans craving more after their spectacular performance. The band never failed to keep fans on their toes. With a nearly blinding light show as their backdrop, the musicians of Third Eye Blind opened the show by playing rhythms that showcased each of their musical talents. Adding to the intensity of the moment was a tribal dancer on top of an elevated platform, throwing out glow sticks to the enthralled crowd.

The Julian Lage Group performed last night at Penn State’s Schwab Auditorium, putting on a truly incredible display of musical talent and collaboration. Lage, a 21 year-old guitarist based in Boston, released his debut album Sounding Point earlier this year. He was joined by drummer and percussionist Tupac Mantilla, bassist Jorge Roeder, saxophonist Ben Roseth, and cellist Aristides Rivas.
